It is with great sadness that I discovered that the Regatta I participated in this summer (with Coach Carlos Perez) and in the summer of 2016 (when I paricipated with Marianne Marical for the Newburgh Rowing Club ) will NOT be hosted in 2019. It is such a huge undertaking to put together a regatta and even one which seemed to be well sponsored can sometimes fail because of the lack of registrations. But maybe it is because there are now so many regattas that competing for TIME is difficult in an athlete’s life. I do hope that Coach Clemens Reinke will be able to bring the regatta back in 2020. At the conference last Friday night I sat at the dinner table with this athletic looking lady who was very energetic and chatty. She was very hyped up about a little rowing club she had just started in Cooperstown, New York with her own money. I JUST NOW looked up her name on google and facebook and found out that she is a two time Olympic rower (she competed on the Olympic Rowing teams in 1992 and 1996). Her name is Andrea Thies and check out this article about her. Yeah, she likes using boats like mine.

What do you do when you can’t row for a long period of time (besides dream of rowing?)? You read books about rowing and go to rowing conventions or attend rowing events in far off places.
I will be attending The Joy of Sculling convention next weekend. Getting pretty excited about it!
