On my walk yesterday morning….

Caught the Independence leaving this morning on the Rondout Creek toward the Hudson. The fog is so thick you cannot see the Lighthouse or its beacon but the Independence has no problem navigating this narrow channel with instrumentation. There was a time when this would be suicide. Then within minutes after it left, the American Constitution entered as the fog made its way further west into the Creek and the Rondout. The fisherman is unfazed by the presence of the Independence which is 220 feet long but creates very little wake here. Very interesting morning…

Building a wooden rowing scull by Hugh Dunstan

Building a wooden rowing scull
“After an enquiry from an old friend, I found an article I wrote to submit to the Wooden Boat Magazine back around 2007 after I had built my wooden rowing scull. I had been inspired to build the boat from reading lots of their stories and thought I would tell my tale – unfortunately, they did not publish it, but I am pleased I wrote it as it has brought back great memories! I have attached the article with the figures.
The scull is still in original condition after 16 years and I take it out periodically for a row at the top end of Lake Macquarie into Cockle Creek.” Hugh Dunstan
