The first picture shows that the day started off beautifully. Temperature 61, wind a calm 3 mph and slack tide expected by the middle of the anticipated row from Newburgh Rowing Club to circumnavigate Bannerman Castle, a mere 3 1/2 miles away and visible from our departure point.
But the Hudson can change radically from one moment to the next. Check out the tracking of this trip. Straight as an arrow to start and then mayhem. We swiftly rowed 1.25 miles south and I thought things were going too smoothly. After stopping for a short break to stretch our legs the River began kicking up white caps with winds accelerating from 5pm to 11mph. It was tretcherous trying to row back and we had to abort at Plum Point.
Chalk it up to experience.
Next trip our point of departure will be Plum Point.
