A beautiful day on the Hudson

Went out with friend Alison Wurtz to USCG Green Can ’71’ and back. A spectacular day on the Hudson River. I found out my eCrumbs were giving me kilometer readings before. I had thought it was 7.6 miles to the ’71’ and back but now realize it was barely 5 miles. Sorry about that. Anyway the water was so calm that it made the row so enjoyable and VERY good exercise. When the only thing you have to watch out for are the many logs that float up and down the river!

Saugerties Village Beach

If you think Kingston Point Beach is small, visit Saugerties Village Beach on the Esopus Creek. I taught newbie Jess Hastings to scull for the first time in her life (at least I think that’s correct). Say 15 minutes on land to get a feel for the boat and the basic rowing technique sequence and we were in the water in no time. Oh, yeah. Her friend Margo forgot to tell her that you row backwards and it is a leg and abs sport not an upper body sport. But none the less I think she liked it. Within a half hour she was beginning to get the feel of it and began to enjoy the beautiful surroundings that this venue provides. A great place to kayak or learn to row in a sculling boat!
